Cumbria

'It’s brilliant. The best place in the world and you couldn’t pay us to live in a city.'

A quaint market town on the Lake District border has locals puzzled over its anomalously low property prices despite its prime location.

He told the Express: "Cumbria is the best part of the world to live. We have got the beach on our doorstep and we’ve got the hills. However, Ged, who rents a council house, explains that there are a number of former mining towns like Egremont that are struggling with the number of well paid jobs available - although Sellafield - which stores nuclear energy - is a major employer. He said: "We could do with a bit more employment.

His cousin Warren Stainton, 47, is a scaffolder who is also from the town - and he loves its location. He lives with his partner Charlotte Hewitt, 34, and has three children and one grandchild. Currently there is a four bedroom terraced property for sale via auction in the town with a guide price of just £36,000. The next cheapest non auction property is a three bedroom bungalow with two bedrooms listed for £95,000.
