This landlocked nation is considered one of the continent’s most stable countries, having peacefully transitioned power in all elections since independence from Britain in the 1960s.This after Botswana former President Ian Khama returned from a three-year self-imposed exile to South Africa to back the party he helped to form, the Botswana Patriotic Front , in the hope of removing the BDP and his rival, Mokgweetsi Masisi, raising the levels of tension around the elections.
