Florida Family Wants Uber To Change Company Policy After Their 12-Year-Old Takes Service To Her Suicide LocationA Florida family is calling for Uber to enact changes to company policy after their 12-year-old daughter allegedly used the ride-share service to order a ride and be driven to the parking garage where she jumped to her death.
"That day if the Uber driver had done his job right we would have seen the red flag, because I always knew where my daughter was," Chen said,Uber's company policy requires that an adult must accompany anyone under 18 who uses the service. If a driver suspects a rider is under 18, they are supposed to request that the individual show identification in order to check their date of birth.
"The Uber driver, who did not follow the policy at all, did not ask any question about her age, did not question why she was by herself, did not question the drop-off destination which is downtown on a corner of the street. There is no school there. And she had a backpack," Chen said."She was a child, 12 years old. Her brain, her mind was not developed 100 percent," Chen said.
Where are you going, not why are you going. End of conversation.
Maybe the parents should have been better parents
Not all kid will voice out their prob. It could have been peer pressure..we wldn't know because it's too late. The girl's parents play a very important role in her upbringing. For her father to even say 'we were good parents' is an understatement. It is mainly her parents fault.
The least ask her how was her day at school, is she alright any school bully.. take interest in your kid's life. That's what all parents are supposed to do. Don't wait for your child to share their thoughts or seek help for it might be too late.
Although the Uber driver did not follow comp policy, it is mainly the girl's parent's responsibility to love, advise and protect her. Her brain, her mind was not developed 100 percent all the more reason her parents shld have been concerned abt her.
Protect your own kid, don’t pass your responsibility on to some stranger.
Do a better job of parenting
Oh my goodness. 💔💔💔
Uh...yeah that is not uber's fault at all or their responsibility. Maybe if you were a better parent and got your kid some help it wouldn't have happened.
Not Uber fault it's the parents jobs to protect their children. It's a sad situation but uber doesn't have to change their policies because of this. My condolences to the family.
I wish you all would stop acting like you all have your fucking eyes glued to your children 24/7. It takes a matter of minutes for an Uber to show for pickup. This is tragic. Yes, Uber drivers should adhere to the policies that they’re supposed to. Why is this even a question?
This isn’t Uber’s fault.
Did the driver get 5 stars or no?
Who in the world gave her an Uber gift card?
Parents do better 'She was a child, 12 years old. Her brain, her mind was not developed 100 percent,' Chen said. 'She may have been going through a tough time, but because she did not share her thoughts, and she did not seek help, we could not help her, because we didn't know.'
How does that have anything to do with Uber?
Not Uber’s fault what she did after she stepped on to the pavement.
This incredibly sad but uber has nothing to do with the choice their child made
Is this for real?!!! Sorry...I can’t 🙄
Uber should decide where to take people, similar to what Twitter and Facebook do.
I'm a taxi driver in the UK and we are trained for situations like this
I CANT BELIEVE THIS!!! I'm so sorry for the family... Am I just ranting when I say, I want a national mentorship program for children? We need to invest more in the children of this nation.... Is anyone listening? This should have never happened...
Her death is a tragedy but the family's anger is misplaced IMO. Their daughter could have called a taxi, taken a bus, hitch-hiked, etc. Uber not giving her a ride would likely not have stopped her suicide. I get that emotionally they need someone to blame but this is a stretch.
See what happens when young people are pumped so full of dystopian propaganda at school, in the media and in entertainment? Leftist Ideology killed this kid as surely as a loaded gun would have.
12 year olds don’t need an Uber gift card.
Even this is ubers fault?
It’s not Uber’s fault that she killed herself
How about the family taking better care of their daughter.
very 😔

Well I was pretty pissed when I called Uber to pick up my 16yr old son from soccer practice and the driver refused to pick him up cause he was 16. I don’t know exactly what happen but at least here in SF my son was refused to be picked because of his age.
Uber should call for her family to do better about familying.
?
Yes, blame Uber.
It’s a parenting problem. Don’t blame it on Uber
And I'm sure it went down like this... Uber: So, where are you headed? Girl: Oh, just off to commit suicide at my suicide location. Uber: Sounds great, feel free to change the radio.
Uber was used by a pre-teen to take her to her suicide location. Uber, along with the rest the country, is calling for parents to do better.
WTF? Ya, I so wish Uber was nosey about where I was going and checked up on me.
The parents shift blame that the driver should have known she was a child, but also state that they didn't know because she never told them. She is your daughter, you should be able to see signs if you paying attention.
What about her family taking responsibility to do better?
Any reason that 12 years old girl stated for committing suicide ?
I will never understand how a child gets to that dark of a place. Very sad.
