The California woman posed an authorized vendor and made off with over $800,000, authorities said.

A California woman illegally took over $800,000 from a business in Hanover Township after posing as an authorized vendor through a compromised email, authorities in Morris County said Wednesday.

Anna Marie Bustamante, 63, of Visalia, California was arrested and charged with second-degree theft. She is awaiting extradition from California to New Jersey, according to officials. On July 27, 2023, Bustamante defrauded a business out of $806,727.92 after communicating with the company through a compromised business email, posing as an authorized vendor, officials said.The business reported the theft to Hanover Township police on Aug. 3, 2023 after learning it had been defrauded, officials said.

Authorities did not release the identity of the business Wednesday and did not share additional details on the investigation.Bustamante is being held in the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office in California awaiting extradition to the Morris County Correctional Facility, officials said.If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
