The Broad Street Market Alliance held its first public meeting of the year to discuss the city's new concept for the market. Concerns were raised about funding, maintenance costs, and transparency. While the priority is getting vendors back into the brick building as soon as possible, there is also excitement about the potential for growth and connecting both buildings.

One week after the new concept for the Broad Street Market was revealed, the Broad Street Market Alliance held their first public meeting of the year. The chair of the Alliance, Eric Hagarty, started off Wednesday night's meeting by sharing that when he had met with the city in November, he did see a few design concepts for the market. In a small back chamber of the Historic Harrisburg Resource Center, the Alliance chair shared some big concerns about the city’s new plans for the market.

Those concerns include the source of funding, maintenance costs and transparency. 'It was a little confusing. But once we spoke with the city officials, the priority is going to be with the brick building, to get it done ASAP. That's basically what they told us,' said Tito Tep, a vendor representative and owner of Tep's Fresh Seafood. While the priority is getting vendors back into the brick building as quickly as possible, some said they are still excited about the potential for growth. 'Before, it was always one building versus the other building. And if we can connect both buildings, that would be wonderful. So, we're excited for that,' said Tep. Historic Harrisburg Assoc. says restoration of Broad Street Market should be top priority Hagarty said it's a critical time for the market, especially as it celebrates solvency in the new year. 'A year ago this time, Broad Street Market was facing a really difficult financial situation and a lot of folks were worried that the market might close for the first time since 1860,' said Hagarty.'I'm just thrilled we're at this point a year later thanks to so much support from the community, we're doing great and every week gets a little better,' he said. Meanwhile, Hagarty said plans to restore the brick building to its original design by 2026 remain the same
