“We are full of regulations, in fact, we are over-regulated. The problem with most of the regulations is they leave a lot of loopholes for discretionary powers,” Gurmit said, adding that this could be where abuse of power and corruption arise in environment-related enforcement. As businesses that flout environmental laws have been exposed on social media, he also said that the Pakatan Harapan government, despite all its shortcomings, has allowed a democratic space to flourish on social media.
“This is when consumers need to exercise their power, the power to boycott products [of companies that behave irresponsibly on climate change],” he said.
