City of Mhlathuze municipality monitor the situation on N2 during student protests at University of Zululand.

Police had to use teargas to disperse University of Zululand students who were trying to block the N2. Issues around safety are historical at this institution and criminals that terrorise students are allegedly known to authorities. But none of them have ever been apprehended and the university blames owners of private residences for refusing to adhere to minimum standards set by the institution.

Students say they will continue striking until all their demands are met and police are monitoring the situation.

UniZulu need to vet out the accommodation. The standard of outside accommodation is appalling. Secondly they need to provide transport for students who stay in Vulindlela, Kwadlangezwa and Eskhawini. Buses every 30 min, Wits and UJ does this. Finally controlled access to campus.

The magnitude of crime rate is on the rise across the country and the question is 'where did we go wrong'?. Until the root causes are firmly dealt with, the entire country will soon slide into a serious crisis.

SenamileMasango Even though It was ideal. It is proving to have been a mistake to build University of Zululand right in the heart of a Township where there are many poor unemployed people.
