The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.24% rose 73 points, or 0.2%, to 27,220, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.30% gained 8 points, or 0.3%, to 3,015. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.50% was up 32 points, or 0.4%, at 8,209. Shares of Microsoft Corp.
rose 1.9% to lead Dow gainers and set the pace for the tech sector after announcing an 11% dividend hike and approving a $40 billion stock-repurchase program.
