Samsung just announced cheaper versions of the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 — and it's further evidence the industry is changing as smartphone prices have skyrocketed

Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. It indicates a way to close an interaction, or dismiss a notification.Samsung announced the Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy Note 10 Lite on Friday, which it's positioning as being more affordable versions of its flagship smartphones.

Samsung launched several versions of its flagship Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 last year, and now the company has added two new less expensive alternatives to its lineup. Both phones have a 6.7-inch borderless screen and triple-lens cameras with rectangular modules on the back. But the camera sensors differ, however: the Galaxy S10 Lite has a 5-megapixel macro camera, a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera, while the Note 10 Lite has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera. The Note 10 Lite also has an S Pen Stylus just like the regular Note 10.

The worldwide smartphone market only just started to recover in the third quarter of 2019 after facing several quarters of declines, according to— a trend that occurred as smartphone prices have climbed higher in recent years. In 2019, Google launched a cheaper edition of 2018's Pixel 3 called the Pixel 3a, while Apple lowered the price of its most affordable new iPhone to $700, a $50 price decrease compared to 2018's iPhone XR.
