A leading business group has called for a partial lifting of the travel ban to prevent the spread of the coronavirus from mainland China, saying it is a 'savage blow to tourism'.

The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said keeping Australians safe from the virus is"absolutely paramount", but said it is a"savage blow" to Australian tourism.

He said Beijing and Shanghai have tightly controlled the virus and account for around 33 per cent of airline movements. The city of Beijing has imposed a 14-day self-quarantine on people returning to the city from holidays and threatened to punish those who failed to comply. "We need to be vigilant and make sure the health of Australians is the number one priority," Mr Albanese told reporters in Perth.

I can think of something else that would be a savage blow to tourism

We believe the Leading Business Group should go to China.

Hi I am ebook cover designer. check my design below 👇

only to the Chinese travel people

Better to have a short term blow than getting into a situation where China is now. With active public transport and concentrated population it will be a real mess if we have an outbteak here.. So far none could properly test, predict and contain virus.

How about we drop the disgusting racism here. This ban should never have been put in place.

Public safety should always come before profit.

Hmm. . You say: 'A leading business group has called for a partial lifting of the travel ban to prevent the spread of the coronavirus from mainland China, saying it is a 'savage blow to tourism'.' My answer: NO! Absolutely not!

Money before lives and people's well being.... your kidding. SMH 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Suffice to say that Chinese interests are behind that push. There is something that Morrison cannot afford to do: allow massive groups of people from China into the country and then have an uncontrollable virus epidemic. Common sense: a vaccine before allowing them here.

Short answer NO.

As distinct from a savage bout of the flue?

Yes, but need to avoid pandemic.

John Hart medical expert eh 🤔. concerned about tourism and business ..public health is the only thing one should be concerned over...I wonder if this business group supports fossil fuel over renewables too .

And if more people get infected and die that’s a pretty savage blow too. 🤔

Shut the gates and wait it out until the virus is under control. The government will have to step in to prevent business from collapsing

Our hospitals are already at capacity. I’ve mentioned it several times across twitter that Brisbane hospitals on any given weekend can be code red (out of beds). We lift bans. We will loose lives and then people will be out for the blood if they loose loved ones.

Wait till the next animal to human cross over virus, then the the others to come. These viruses are intelligent they are mutating to survive. The densification of humanity, the convenience of flying the world. A deadly pandemic beyond belief awaits humanity.

No! I recommend further travel bans! Don't be foolish!

Money, Money, Money. Greedy bastards. Money more important than health.

ok let them in we can all die its ok

The knock on effect if the ban was lifted could be unimaginable if we saw an infection rate like China. The impact on our health system would cause havoc

Eradicating the Corona Virus should be the only goal

Much much it gonna cost Australia if the virus broke out here?

People before profits! I have younger and older friends and family that could be terminally affected by COVID-19. They're more valuable than your bottom line. Use your common sense (and decency).

It's only a week.

Tourism v Virus. Which one do you want?

It's all about money, money, money... who cares if a few thousandth die and hundreds of thousandth get infected as long as businesses make money! It's the same selfishness that is driving or planet to irreversible damage by greedy, shortsighted businesses.

The cost of earning the money from China

The suspect only business group that would complain about travel ban is Chinese.

The virus is a savage blow to humanity, can we attract non Chinese tourists?

No sensible investor would ever have such a recklessly weighted portfolio. Why is Australia so hopelessly dependent on China?

Turn it around become less dependent and more independent

Greedy selfishness

Stop you whining! The OZ government is protecting ALL of from numbers like as this!

Can we bring them here and let them stay with members of this business group and their families, please.

Sudden death can be a savage blow as well

Can you imagine how bad tourism would be if we had no great barrier reef, wildlife all gone, forests gone, bad air quality and wild weather was the norm....let me think....

Yeah but at least coronavirus isn’t spreading like wild fire around the world yet. I honestly think people aren’t talking this seriously enough. Would you rather lose your money or you life? I know which camp I’m in.

I fear these requests will only snowball as Universities also demand Chinese students are allowed into Aus. Naturally Chinese people would much rather be in Aust than their own country which is the hub of the deadly virus

If COVID2019 gets a foothold in Australia it will bring down the economy similar to the 1930's. Tighter borders and security are needed. This crisis hasn't even begun yet.

WHO would pay the bills for public health problems of COVID19 pandemic

$$$$$ vs life!

Perhaps not! If this is what the Chinese govt thinks.

so a partial epidemic here instead of a full one is better for business

Who cares... only the tourism groups care as they are losing millions of $... don’t worry about the health of ALL Australian’s!! Health comes 1st! Just shows if you put all your eggs in one basket, there’s a greater risk of losing everything.

When people start losing jobs the government will open the floodgates regardless. That's the Neoliberal way and why we'll end up with a pandemic where millions die

Which country will come to Australia if not China?

Lol don't worry about lives, tourism downturn is the issue.

Over tourism is a problem for all of us. Plus we welcome visitors from all over the world, don’t emphasize on one particular country.

Piss off. On the news tonight they’re already anticipating we might need to cancel large events, close schools and work from home before the virus gets better and these ppl want to make it worse? Get fkd!

What a choice, profit vs a pneumophillic virus. Which one does the tourist industry want me to take?

So looks like money is more important than peoples lives

The Morticians Business Council has also called for the ban to be lifted.

How about put Australia 🇦🇺 first ☝️

Beijing now has a 14 day quarrantine for everyone wanting to enter that city. Our travel restrictions are perfectly fine.

Partial lift? They can't even control it in their own country!

it is like they want to bring Australia to its knees

The dead don't shop.

Who cares I reckon a plague spreading across the whole country would also be pretty negative

What a great idea. The perfect solution for de-populating an over populated world. It might rub out some coal loving climate change deniers as well with luck. Shame they can't consider a visit to Zionist Israel as an alternative destination if they can't get a holiday here.

I didn’t realise what a grip the Chinese already have in Australia. We are stuffed.

Well the ChinaCoronaVirus is a savage blow on the world

The rich men want money; not public safety.

What a recklessly stupid thing to say...if that's what they really said and haven't been misquoted...

Money more important than lives 🙄

Too late. Chinese oversea students just arrived today and enter Australia already. Because they already stay 14 days in third country. So.. should be okay:)

Have a brain pls. If the ban is lifted, we may have some more Chinese tourists coming back. But at the same time, we may lose tourists from other parts of the world.

Money over people.. Arse holes

Money before lives ! Of course!!

Sorry business group, but Australian well-being is more important than profits.

Fuck business groups

Aussies simply cannot live without China. If you are humble enough, China may let tourists go again.

So is jerry Harvey gonna lobby for a pandemic tax now to help the retailers association like he did for internet purchases 🤣

How about we have a partial shutting down of the Business Group lobby instead?

Fuck that!! It only takes one person.

So yeah, let’s bring all the infected Chinese tourists here and let them have an amazing tour around Australia infecting people. What a great idea. ✊🏽

Let’s compare that to a pandemic that kills thousands. Pretty easy choice.
