In recent years, the spotlight has also turned to diversity, with pledges being made about diversity charters and a recognition of the need to include all under-represented voices, whether people of color, people from working-class backgrounds, people with disabilities or those who are LGBTQI. “Today, women and all minority filmmakers struggle to appear on broadcasters’ unofficial lists of ‘approved directors.’ We don’t, we are told, exist in sufficient numbers, that we lack experience and ambition,” said We are Doc Women.
