2020 seems like the year of contactless credit cards in the US because, let's face it, no one wants to have contact with anything right now. of approximately four million contactless cards in three major markets last year. Discover started issuing all US consumer credit cards with contactless functionality in January, according to Jennifer Delgado, a spokesperson for the company.Those moves are late compared with the rest of the world. The US has been far behind many other countries in contactless usage. In fact, many consumers here don't even recognize the contactless symbol.
"Our goal has been to get a contactless device in the hands of every US consumer, and the easiest way to do that and help customers in the US understand the convenience of contactless is to mail them a new [contactless-enabled] card," Sanford said.Putting cards in mailboxes is only half the battle. They have to work in stores, too, and Sanford said that one of Visa's primary responsibilities is driving awareness about the ability to tap to pay.
This always seems to fail when I, after tapping to pay, have to pick up a pen and folio, write in a tip and total, and sign.
