Meet David Fairhust, the former head of HR at McDonald's reportedly fired for making women uncomfortable and friend of disgraced CEO Steve Easterbrook

When Easterbrook moved to Illinois to take the reins as McDonald's CEO, Fairhurst soon followed, with a promotion to the position of global chief people officer. The two were friends, according to sources within the company. in January that both Fairhurst and Easterbrook were known for drinking with staffers. Fairhurst's practice of drinking with employees — including younger female staffers — sparked rumors and ethical concerns, current and former employees told Business Insider.

Some within McDonald's thought that the company's decision to keep Fairhurst on as head of HR after the investigation reflected poorly on the company. One former corporate employee said that Fairhurst leading the HR department was indicative of "integrity issues" at the company. However, McDonald's launched a second investigation into Easterbrook in July after receiving an anonymous tip about Easterbrook and another employee. McDonald's investigators found explicit photos that the company said in a filing provided "indisputable evidence" of Easterbrook's sexual relationships with three employees. McDonald's is currently suing Easterbrook to claw back his multi-million dollar severance package. H. J. Heinz, SmithKline Beecham, and Tesco.
