Now on Amazon: insulin and inhalers. The company said that it has opened an online pharmacy, giving shoppers the chance to buy their medication on their phones and computers. The move propels Amazon into a new business and could shake up the industry.

FILE - In this Oct. 1, 2020 file photo, an Amazon logo appears on an Amazon delivery van, in Boston. Amazon opened an online pharmacy Tuesday, Nov. 17 giving shoppers the chance to buy their medication and order refills on their phones and computers and have it delivered to their doorsteps in a couple of days.

The potential impact of Amazon’s arrival in the pharmaceutical space rippled through that sector immediately. Before the opening bell, shares of CVS Health Corp. fell almost 9%. Walgreens and Rite Aid both tumbled more than 10%. Most insurance is accepted, Amazon said. But Prime members who don’t have insurance can also buy generic or brand name drugs from Amazon for a discount. They can also get discounts at 50,000 physical pharmacies around the country, inside Costco, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and other stores.

no... just no. I'll gladly continue to use CVS, especially because CVS Health now owns Aetna.

will eventually need to be chopped up. too big.

Insulin should be free!! MedicareForAll Insulin4all

Viagra with 2 days prime shipping!

Watch out weed dealers. You’re next!

Wow. Bezos achieved what Trump couldn’t. Think MAGAts were deluded by Trump thinking he was a real businessman🤷‍♀️

Fake medicine

Hmmmmm

Yea. A pharmacy us more than just a pick-up med shop. There are drug interactions that need monitoring. What about drug-seeker meds? This seems dangerous for delivery people. Gotta think on this one. 🤔

This will be big

Unfortunately a lot of pharmacies up charge prescriptions which is financially hard for those on little or limited income. I bet the scripts are cheaper. Maybe it will make pharmacies droo their prices.

I'm all for it. Amazon good.

I already use Amazon PillPack and have been absolutely thrilled with their service. If you take multiple pills a day, it's by far the easiest way to manage your medications. I'll probably keep using my local Safeway Pharmacy for immediate needs though.

$AMZN needs to be bombed out of existence.

Amazon is trying to take over the world.🤔

So Jeff is a hero again?

✨ Fuck Bezos. ✨

They better drive down costs for those

Hopefully this has ripple effects in the medical industry and at-home medicine.

J*ff B*zos be like

Amazon takeover

Here for Amazon Basics version of Insulin... to bad no generics exist... yet.

Curious to see where the patient care aspect of pharmacy comes to play in this. Who do they call if they have a question about their prescription? Pharmacy is not just about delivery of medications

Need to get the covid vax into an inhaler.

If you can get your stuff at the local small businesses in your town, please do! Use Amazon as a last resort! Save the Ma and Pop grocery and pharmacy stores! Amazon monopoly antitrust littlebusiness

Amazon taking over the world

Oh the soccer mom joe biden voting suburban xanax poppin moms will love this !!

I will NEVER!

Yea like I’m going to buy my child’s inhaler from Amazon 🤣 no thanks. I’ll get my meds from a REAL PHARMACIST who went to school and have degrees!

This is good. It sucks having to go to the pharmacy and then they’re like, oh sorry, the insulin you want we don’t have in stock, I know it was supposed to come in today, but it didn’t, guess you have to starve or go into diabetic keto acidosis

Now Jeff Bezos will have access to your kinks, hobbies, political leanings & your medical conditions. That being said, next day delivery to my door sounds good for prescription drugs.

Amazon is really out here trying to take over the world 😐 there are some major problems with amazon taking over everything and running everything else out of business. Publishing, food, etc

Amazon is going to put all these businesses out of business and take over ALL. STOP SHOPPING AMAZON! Part of the problem + socialistic ways it will dictate where we shop! Because nothing will be left. Ever see the movie WALL-E. Big And Large is Amazon

heynottheface

Please support your local & independent pharmacy!

JoyTaylorTalks Interesting.

But will Jeff pay any taxes?

Not good

This is big

folks giving Amazon too much info smh

Research chemicals about to go through the roof

Amazon will be the only company left if this continues.

Bad content dog

So I guess we’re just gonna let this scary mega-monopoly happen on the pretense that it’s convenient, huh?

We're all doomed. This is what consolidation of power looks like

It won’t be long before the free marketeers will be begging to have their monster put in chains...

🥴 can’t decide if this is beneficial or a negative yet

MsGabbyBaker

Can't wait to pay the richest man in the world for the drugs that let me breathe so I can go to work for AmazonScrip

Everything is going to be free but we’re shutting down small businesses

Wooooot!

Nice. Now after my expired food arrives I can order some expired inhalers.

So their phone chargers could burn my house down but I'm supposed to trust them with medicine? Hard pass.

Amazon can't quality test electronics coming from untested countries but were gonna trust them with medicine? No fucking thanks

First it was the end of mom and pop shops now it’s the end of small pharamacy business owners.

i warned you:

I fucking called this 5 years ago! FUCK

Nice

No, Amazon is too big already! Break it up and make that mofo Bezos pay taxes!

More ways Amazon will control the world. Ugh

Not quite yet.

same inhalers we get at any US pharmacy for 1 for $56.00 after insurance.. In Mexico, 3 same inhalers are $16.00! the insurance companies are the problem, and our gov that allows it.

Here’s the start, one nation under JeffBezos where the dems shut down the economies but saying they’re the “working class” party but only big business profiting.

Amazon seems to dabble to keep dabbling. However, they don't do those things great. Look at UI on the front and backend of amazonhandmade , PrimeVideo. Those are just two examples. I'm never impressed because they don't even try to do a good job. They just do the bare minimum.

No, I will trust or advice anyone to buy medication from advice.. some of their products are fake

That’s it game over.... Amazon wins the capitalist war.

Think porch-piracy will rise if thieves think drugs are now an available option to steal?

Average prime user spends $1,300 a year while the average Pillpack user spends $5,000 (through insurance & co-pays) Lifesaving medication should be free. Amazon is a behemoth.

This will compete with retail pharmacies and squeeze out any smaller pharmacies out if they still exist

First ToysRUs, then Sears, now Amazon is taking the street corner side hustle from bud Juan Kilo

They don’t even check expiration dates. We are supposed to trust them with prescription medication?

Are you skeptical about buying your meds from Amazon?

CharlesMunn1 Bypassing USPS what

Yo.. does that mean you can order insulin with a VPN from another country and have it shipped to your house?

Can they legally do that? Like I'm pretty sure they're not a licensed distributor

Do they take medi Cal

wtf

Next up, Amazon mobile vaccine clinics

So this is why Amazon purchased PillPack 📈📈

Wow. This is really happening? And no one sees a problem with this to just let it happen On a unrelated note, y’all seen that move Wall-E?

Can I get stuff without a prescription like in other countries Mexico had stuff without a prescription

I'm an Amazon customer but damn, this is a bit much. They're trying to take over the whole world. I will stick with my local drugstore and keep them in business.

Now if they’d just deliver benzos and weed...

Just checked. My inhaler is $526 for a 1 month supply. 😡 ...and people wonder we want HC4A 😏😏😏

As a former Amazon employee I can’t honestly tell you this we’ve been doing this for a long time...

I don't like it one bit. This may impact jobs for pharmaceutical technicians in the long run.

How about Amazon Health Insurance?

My question is will there be a department within Amazon that regulates the selling of prescription drugs? What happens if some of these drugs are counterfeit? How about recreational drugs like marijuana ? Or even illicit drugs?

I hope Jeff Bezos has a chapel on his superyacht dedicated to Ronald Reagan where he gives thanks everyday for his ability to consolidate industry, monopolise, stiff his workers, and make more money than any human in the history of commerce ever has.

Amazon destroyed local bookstores and now they're looking to take down your local pharmacy. I personally wouldn't get my prescriptions online, I like the face-to-face interaction with my pharmacists.

Soon amazon will provide everything for you. I for one am not looking forward to the corporate dominated future.

TheArtofStunt You SEE THIS SHYT Thoughhh... 🤨🤨 And Black 'Money Twittah' is JAKING OFF ALL OVER Themselves talking about How Great & Genius Bezos Is DaFUCKKK 😒😒😒

Yesterday books. Today insulin. Tomorrow the world. Amazon

Has anyone paid attention to the movie WALL-E? Buy and Large, here we come!

And there goes CVS

“Could” lol

I love capitalism 🥰🥰

Because your governors have closed down small neighborhood pharmacies trying to usher in some “great reset” that just consolidates more power centrally and leaves the rest to flap in the wind.

Amazon is gonna rule the world

What a lovely development. -Satan

What safeguards are in place to ensure buyers are not getting counterfeit, expired, recalled, or otherwise adulterated drugs?

We’re on track—if not already there—to having 5-6 companies owning the totality of American commerce.

Pill pack!!!!

insulin should be free.

Break that shit up under antitrust laws.

selldrugsonlinefast the legal version. Just get your fentanyl with one click.

One day this non tax paying giant will have the corner on everything, everyone else will be driven out of business. When they're the only show in town, their prices will not be so great I bet.

disgusting. soon amazon will own everything and be an international dictator.

I won't buy anything from Amazon - and DEFINITELY not medicine. shoplocal

Ok but they also sell counterfeit OTC medications. So how do people know these meds are real

cvspharmacy

I don't approve.

Please break up the amazon monopoly.

I mean, if it's affordable... 🤔

Do remind me why Amazon is not paying any tax whilst they are busy destroying another service sector?

Honestly if medication like insulin and inhalers are cheaper, I’m all for it. The US healthcare system is a joke. And if anything happens to your job, you no longer have healthcare. Hence can no longer afford meds..not a Amazon fan, but okay with this. Struggling people need it!

If amazon can bring down prices of prescription drugs great.

From China or?

nice

THIS IS EXTREMELY MISLEADING. Amazon already owns a company that does this exact same thing, called PillPack, yet no mention of the subsidiary in the article.

Leave it to an ambitious nerd who decided to sell some books online in the 90s to become the wealthiest robber baron in contemporary times (and perhaps in all of human history, depending on future developments)...

I see Amazon's world domination is going as planned.

I'm not sure where I stand on this. 🤔 What are your thoughts, friends? Possible pros, possible cons?

Can this guy not make a monopoly in this one too? Unless it's cheap.

Let me know when they add amphetamines

Can we buy weed?

The rich get richer.
