Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has waived the licence fees of night market organisers amounting to RM41,600.

MBPP financial management committee alternate chairman Wong Yuee Harng said the fee waiver from August to December would benefit 42 night market organisers.“We have given them licence fee waiver from April to July and now we are extending it to December.“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and with the conditional movement control order, we know many traders have stopped operating.“Many night markets also have fewer stalls operating as well, ” he said at the council meeting at City Hall yesterday.

On another matter, Wong said the assessment tax for Lam Wah Ee Hospital in Jalan Tan Sri Teh Ewe had also been waived from Jan 1 this year to Dec 31,2022.“We have approved the assessment tax exemption continuously all these years. “The hospital has met certain criteria set by the council to qualify for the waiver, ” he said, adding that a review on tax waiver would be reviewed every three years.
