SHAH ALAM (Bernama): The Banting public market has been ordered to close for 10 days from Tuesday (Dec 29) to allow for sanitation operations and Covid-19 screenings to be conducted.

State health director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said the order was issued due to several instances of non-compliance with the standard operating procedure that were detected at the premises.

These included failure to implement physical distancing, and failure to present records on the required thrice-daily sanitation and employee screenings. “A total of 25 positive cases has been detected related to this market and 43 close contacts, namely the patients’ family members, have also been screened,” he told Bernama.

Dr Sha’ari said with the closure, the Kuala Langat district health office would conduct Covid-19 tests on all 101 traders on Thursday . In a statement, Kuala Langat Municipal Council president Datuk Amirul Azizan Abdul Rahim said the public sanitation would be conducted throughout the market closure.Article type: metered
