Pianist, and the President of the Fellowship of Organists, Babatunde Shosanya, has urged the government to commit more funds to the music sector. He said, “In Africa, music is part of our culture. It has been historically proven to invoke thought in society, and expresses life in all aspects through the medium of sound. Music can influence people in both negative and positive ways. Music plays an important role and is a powerful force in human society.
“Having established how powerful music is, the best way for the government to commit more funds to it is to begin from the foundation, which is music education. Government should provide adequate funds for the purchase of musical instruments and other education resources. Untrained and unqualified teachers should not be allowed to teach music in schools.”
Shosanya, who is also a member of the respected MUSON Choir, added that sound music education would lead to more quality music being produced by musicians. The multi-instrumentalist said, “The government should sponsor the training of music teachers, even to postgraduate level. They should also provide music studios and libraries with music textbooks. They should review the curriculum with the 21st century child in mind, and infuse our indigenous music. Also, members of society should be educated on the usefulness of music.”
Of all the many things the government has ruined in our generation is not enough, you want them to fund the Music Industry, that's common sense in reverse🙄🙄🙄
There are cases of killings and kidnappings. Many are living in fear and there is hunger in the land. This one is talking about music. A little time, somebody will call this one 'a patriot'.
