Asian-American business and community leaders launch $250 million initiative for what is seen as the largest private investment in Asian American and Pacific Islander causes in US history following a rise in anti-Asian bigotry

The organisation means to fill in gaps that have long constrained AAPI community organisations, which receive less than 0.5 percent of charitable foundation-giving even though Asian Americans represent about 6 percent of the US population.

The 23-million-strong community is the country's fastest-growing demographic group and saw a massive surge in voter turnout in last year's presidential election.in March, which included six women of Asian descent among the eight dead, further galvanised national advocates.'We want our communities to be seen'

Sonal Shah, a former Obama administration official, will serve as the foundation's president and hold a board seat. In an interview, Shah said the foundation will counteract the "model minority myth" that Asian Americans are successful and do not need assistance.
