Mike McNaney, president and chief executive officer of the National Airlines Council of Canada, says the U.K. has announced that starting May 17 it will allow travel to and from a select list of countries.McNaney says the initial list of countries announced Friday will expand over time as the public health situation improves.
Travel restrictions introduced through the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic have been catastrophic for the airline sector, as passenger numbers and profits plummeted and tens of thousands of workers lost their jobs. "On behalf of the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who have lost their jobs in the aviation and travel sector, and the scores of communities that have lost service, it is critical that the federal government now follow the U.K. example and work immediately with industry to develop a restart plan."
He said the strategy should use a science-based approach that sets out how Canada will deal with vaccinated and non-vaccinated passengers, how quarantine and testing measures will be adjusted, and how it will ensure appropriate electronic capture of health data to facilitate international travel.
Why is the airline industry the only one that never has to pivot and adapt during a global crisis? Why are they always the first ones with their hands out? 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤔
Plan now for multiple benefits for Canada and Canadians later
No money at all. Moral support only.
Dear Airline Industry and Federal Government. If it's not too much trouble, would you mind waiting until we stop dying before get your profits going again? In Canada you did just get yet another huge bailout after all. Thanks.
Meanwhile, further lockdowns in Manitoba . . .
Should have flights from Pakistan and India arriving here well they're at it. Cold blooded murderers.
They (governments) are still focused on blunt instruments of lockdown -?versus a plan to emerge actually “living” with this endemic that’s not going away
How about Air Canada hires back the people that laid off, or give back the tax money they took to keep their employees in their jobs?
