Early estimates from Small Business Australia place the cost of this seven day Victorian lockdown at $1 billion in lost economic activity, while the Grattan Institute puts it at slightly lower at $900 million.

“It’s just the uncertainty. I don’t know when my next shift will be. I don’t know where my next pay cheque is coming from. I don’t know where I’ll pay my rent from. “One week of lockdown costs us roughly $50,000 over two sites and that’s because we’re losing our biggest trade times on weekends and our functions,” Ms Glentis said.

“And then there’s the loss of income. Our weekend trade. Our lockdowns always happen at the busiest times with weekends and our after hours functions.”

We need to put pressure on the federal government to take on their responsibility for quarantine and the vaccine rollout. But with nearly all the Australian media under the thumbs of conservative masters we're not.

well, perhaps business could ruminate on the fact that it was inadequate hotel quarantine that caused this lockdown, and quarantine is a federal government responsibility, and perhaps not elect the same bunch of incompetent idiots next time...

all because of Australian Indian does not follow the rules!!!Fxxk them all!

What if no lockdown? How much would cost eventually?

Either lockdown or lose loves.

Victoria’s 4th lockdown 😂😂.

If those making decisions saw the same financial impact as those running small business or working as casuals, I bet we would see a different approach. Until that happens, those that have will continue to push to cost onto those that don’t have.

Entirely attributable to lack of proper quarantine facilities.....that’s CANBERRA s responsibility

Tired of these sensationalist headlines Lets get on with it and work out how to fix Watch out you don’t turn into News corp ABC

Did a coronavirus write this

Lock downs were all fun and games when we had job keeper

Why don't the politicians donate their wages to charity for the extent of lockdown? They are expecting us to give up our wages...Why should they be paid?

How much did the ruby princess cost NSW? Or do you just go after Victoria because is a Labor government?

Please don't focus on the negatives of lockdown. We know this will devastate some business. We don't have the luxury of thinking 'what if?' We have to live through this lockdown, for Victorians & for all Australians. How about creating content that helps?

I'm just here to collect tears from the Crazy Lefties.

Probably and exaggeration and there would be some catch up when lock down finishes.

Will this affect indigenous and non-indugenous businesses?

All the fault of Scottythefukwit who is ScottyDoesNothing

As it should be with a virus and a 99.9997 % survivability rate.

And what will no lockdown cost Victoria’s economy? I feel that should be the focus of reporting.

This solely rests on Morrison for failing to implement adequate federal quarantine facilities! MorrisonLockdown

A billion hey? So how much would a fit for purpose quarantine centre cost? A bit less than that I reckon.

Vote out MorrisonLockdown master planner ScottMorrisonMP at the next election. ScottyDoesNothing

A billion dollars lol? Give us a break. Hysterical rubbery figures as usual from the business lobby.

Until and unless there is qurantain facility, you will never stop the spread. Dont do anything for international students, at least do it for your self. Force the government and get qurantain facility centers.

Gee... imagine what 1 month would do if we didn’t act now 🤔

Labor Victoria Stuffs Up Again, Hmm back to Lockdowns All other States & Territories handling Outbreaks & Contact Tracing, But not Labor Victoria And then blames everyone but themselves

Vaccination is the only way out, keep going backwards on these lockdowns. Time to move forward. We can pretend all we want that we are safe, but covid is here to stay. Vaccination is the only option.

Government doesn't lockdown virus spreads and the media attack Daniel Andrews for it. Government locks down and protects Victorians and media attack them for ruining businesses. 🥴🥴 MorrisonLockdown

I still don't get it, if some of the states health authorities say hotels are not suitable for quarantine. Why are they still using them for quarantine. 🤔

This Lockdown is caused directly by the Federal Government. They should pay the $1 billion directly to the Victorian Government so they can compensate the businesses and the people.

The cost of lockdown v the cost of fit for purpose air gapped quarantine facilities. Fed gov has constitutional obligation and responsibility for quarantine, no interest in it, and to date, no liability. States should sue.
