Construction workers are planning another protest in Melbourne today following yesterday's violent demonstration against the Victorian government's vaccine mandate.
The government said all construction projects in Metropolitan Melbourne, Ballarat, Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire and Mitchell Shire would be closed, "with a strictly limited exemption for workers to attend the sites to respond to an emergency or perform urgent and essential work to protect health and safety".
On Monday afternoon the union declared it won't be intimated by "extremists", saying the crowd was "heavily infiltrated by neo-Nazis".Videos on social media showed the workers, many of whom were unmasked, gathered around the entrance to the office throughout the day while chanting, yelling and throwing items.
Videos being streamed online show Mr Setka, who was wearing a mask, holding his hands up and pushing back angry workers encroaching on the entrance to the building.Footage also shows workers chanted "F--- the jab" and "freedom" while fist-pumping.
My partner is an electrician and 2IC on construction site. He had his first vaccine last week. Shutting down the industry for those who have done the right thing is unethical & they shouldn’t be out of pocket! He wasn’t part of the protest. DanielAndrewsMP
