Industry groups say the federal government must encourage higher electric vehicle uptake to reduce the country’s dependence on oil, with fuel prices at record highs.

But electricity, unlike oil, was less unpredictable, Electric Vehicle Council chief executive Behyad Jafari said. Mr Jafari said the government should introduce fuel economy standards and invest to make elective vehicles more widely available as currently, supply is outstripped by massive demand.

rachelclun Just like subsidies for solar. At first got 16cents, then over the years down down down.

rachelclun Let’s make sure we align increased solar / battery uptake and electric vehicle uptake- but also it’s v hard to find a full electric vehicle to buy in this country right now… AlboForPM

rachelclun In a country as large as Australia a lot more infrastructure is needed before a change to electric vehicles is feasible.

rachelclun Slomo won’t like this

rachelclun They're worse for thr environment.

rachelclun Sure, do we all take our mortgages to buy electric cars? Idiots

rachelclun How are we going to create the electricity for all these electric cars?

rachelclun Yeah ok...and the next thing us that electricity goes up too! 🤦‍♂️

rachelclun Now is the time? Thought a couple of years ago would have been better then I could have had an electric donk dropped into my ute.....

rachelclun There are basically no EV charging stations. Got to spend 5 years building those first before we start selling more EVs.

rachelclun ethanol costs about 80cents a litre at spot price for sugar ,let that sink in ,

rachelclun Which federal government?

rachelclun That suggestion could be a total waste of time.

rachelclun Only a matter of time, he will take the opportunity to buy some political capital, using the Treasury's coffers. 😜

rachelclun Perhaps combine with discounted public transport?

rachelclun They’re a bit late to the cause…shouldn’t they have been pushing for this 20 yrs ago…. Nothing like waiting til shit hits the fan to get up and do something about the stench… Climate change has reached a point of no return now.

rachelclun Why doesn’t the AustGovernment use their own oil to keep prices down? They export more oil than what is needed for domestic consumption.

Didn't take long for the grifters at the Electric Vehicle Council to come crawling out of the woodwork. 😏

rachelclun What about the weekend?

rachelclun oh no .......missed another opportunity

rachelclun The govt doesn’t have to encourage sales of electric cars. Heaps of people want to buy them but are discouraged by the still crappy charging network. Unless you have a driveway & accessible power supply, charging your EV is a complete pain in the arse. Build the charging network!

rachelclun

rachelclun DICKHEADS should have backed Bill Shorten and Labor at the Last election 🙄

rachelclun $15990 drive away and everyone would buy one. The car industry are solely to blame for lack of uptake.

rachelclun Dumb, market solution technocratic nonsense.
