The matinee performance Sunday at 2 p.m. and the evening performance at 7 p.m. have been canceled.

-- Two Chicago performances of"The Play That Goes Wrong" were canceled Sunday due to a COVID-19 breakthrough case in the theatre company.

The matinee performance Sunday at 2 p.m. and the evening performance at 7 p.m. were both canceled"to ensure to the health and safety of our audiences, cast, and staff," Broadway in Chicago reported.is running at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place, 175 E. Chestnut St. The comedy performance tells the story of a small theatre company staging a production of a murder mystery"The Murder at Haversham Manor," in which things go"form bad to utterly disastrous." The play is described as a"hilarious hybrid of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes. As CBS 2's Sabrina Franza reported, this all comes as COVID-19 cases are rising in Chicago and across Illinois. Experts say it is not a reason to concern for now, but a reason to stay vigilant.

However, Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady warned that the city could reach the high-risk level for COVID-19 transmission this week. Currently, Chicago, suburban Cook County, and DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Lake, LaSalle, McHenry, and Will counties all fall under the medium risk level.

The high risk classification from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention asks that people wear a mask indoors. But when asked about the rules in Chicago, Dr. Arwady said the city will not reinstate the mask mandate so long as hospitalization rates remain low. There was one addendum to the mask ruling – if the local health system comes under pressure, the Chicago Department of Public Health said a mask mandate could come back. Currently, masks are recommended indoors.
