A number of voices in the Canadian travel industry are calling for the federal government to ditch COVID-related measures at the border, including the ArriveCan app used to check vaccine certificates.

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions and vaccine passports made sense.

“It’s done its thing, but it’s time to move on,” said Potter on Tuesday. “We’ve told the government that it’s time to pause the ArriveCan app as it’s being used, and we’re not alone.” “The National Airlines Council of Canada believes that the current ArriveCAN app policy has outlived its utility and purpose,” said Acton-Gervais in an email. “The Public Health Agency of Canada’s legacy pandemic-era health policies like ArriveCan cause significant delays in Canada’s customs halls. ArriveCAN creates a confusing, complex journey for travellers and keeps Canada out of step with other countries.

In late June, the federal government announced it was extending existing travel restrictions — including mandatory use of ArriveCAN — until at least Sept. 30. Despite defending the app’s performance, Cohen said the government hasn’t ruled out changing or one day eliminating ArriveCAN. “They were shut down for the past two summers, and now it’s stretching into a third,” said Potter. “No other industry where you face people still has these restrictions. You can sit in a movie theatre. You can dine at a restaurant. We’re the last ones.”

Good. Useless

I found the app very easy to use and I breezed through customs returning from Vegas. Not sure why everyone is pissing and moaning about it. 🤷‍♀️

In another article it sounds like the delays have nothing to do with COVID restrictions. I look forward to the day when we stop talking about delays at the airport, these stories cater to the entitled. CdnMediaFailed

Oligarchs pushing for more folks to die from covid, when there is plenty of non-covid security theater that could be scrapped and the airlines/airports could just pay their employees a living wage.

ArriveCan is not an issue Many times they don’t even check it The issue is the lack of space which makes feel very crowded and uncomfortable the lack of machines to complete those declarations and especially the lack of custom officers

⬇️ Ummm … ⬇️

The liberal NDP sycophants won't allow it.

No. There's a panademic going on! Stay local! COVIDisAirborne CovidIsNotOver

solidinstigator Should read “used to track Canadians”

Holy drop the theatrics already. We are the only country still obsessed over this nonsense.

We're long overdue

Have you heard the one about our hospitals being in crisis?

Yes, capitalism over public safety! What an idea! 🪶😡

Funny my arrive can info pops up when I cross the border back into Canada. They see it when all my other info comes up. I e had zero delay because of it 🤷‍♀️

People not concerned with your health- just $$$$ want to remove all safe guards

Please ditch it! Such a waste!! fordnation JustinTrudeau

If you think the federal Liberals care about Canadians or anyone but themselves then you're strongly mistaken.

ArriveCan app is cancer. Delete it now.

How about we go with medical experts on medicine and science decisions?

You only need to upload your vax certificates to the ArriveCan app once and you're good to go for multiple visits. You can even upload with your camera. It literally takes two minutes. No biggie.

It wouldn’t make any difference. It’s the airlines that are in chaos.

ArriveCAN is a worthless abomination. End this farce. It’s a violation of the Charter, it deters travellers and the $ they pump into our economy, and it does NOTHING to mitigate the spread of this mild cold.

Absolutely absolutely- government BS

The app has definitely outlived it's purpose for Covid but no way Trudeau gives up the power of being able to track the movement of citizens and thus usher in the CCP social credit system that he deeply admires.
