A MultiChoice-owned company has released an update to its digital rights management technology to help crack down on “overzealous credential sharing”.

Wholly-owned MultiChoice subsidiary Irdeto has announced that it extended the capabilities of its digital rights management system to tackle piracy and password sharing.

In simpler terms, Irdeto Control lets streaming providers limit access to content on their platforms based on how much subscribers pay. The streaming limit crackdown caused headaches for several subscribers in the weeks after it was implemented, with legitimate customersCalvo Mawela, MultiChoice Group CEOallow more simultaneous streams per household“We should be able to get a solution on that to deploy,” Mawela said. At the time, he did not give a timeframe for when people could expect the solution.

“It prevents any attempt to circumvent the systems’ heartbeats, enabling operators to accurately enforce content and service usage rules in real-time.” “Based on subscribers’ location, operators can deploy targeted strategies by country, region, or city,” the company said.

Just found a brand new boxed Walka 7 for sale..R100 off the retail price....I did not know dstv was using walka anymore..

Imagine focusing on this instead of bringing content people would be happy to pay for.

Multichoice is digging its own grave

I thought password sharing wasn't possible anymore since only one device can stream at a given time.

Allow people to share, maybe four connections on one subscription. We can't all pay the full subscription each, when we are siblings living in different places. It makes no sense, we economise.

🤡

That's why DSTV will keep losing subscribers to the streaming services. Just change your business model and have a minimum fee per extra streaming device.

Mxm oksalayo I won't renew my subscription.
