Less than two weeks after Uber launched a dedicated advertising division, some users have started to see ads for other companies in push notifications sent by the Uber app. Over the weekend, a number of users took to Twitter to share screenshots of an ad for the Peleton app that the Uber app had sent them. This is likely just the beginning.
While many of us turn off push notifications for a vast majority of the apps on our phones, the feature can be useful on some apps. That includes the Uber app, which sends out push notifications when your driver has been found and when your driver arrives. As such, many users turn on Uber’s push notifications, but they might now be reconsidering:
