This year has been particularly difficult for buying wholesale.

TRURO, N.S. — Now that calendars have turned over to December, Christmas tree producers throughout Colchester County have begun to set up shop.

“I could’ve sold 10 times what I had, if I had them,” said Chisholm. “There’s a big demand right across the country.”Samson added the supply issue has been exacerbated by early shoppers and those buying large amounts of trees at wholesale. Fiona further hurt Christmas tree producers across Atlantic Canada. Samson lost several trees to the storm and expects he’ll be picking up the pieces for years to come.

‘We’ll be ringing in, probably, less trees this year, because we don’t have them, and you can’t buy any more trees,” Samson commented. Samson estimated that some of his lighter trees will go for around $25, while heavier, sheared trees will go for around $60.
