Rail workers are striking today, along with some bus drivers and highways workers. Nurses and ambulance workers are preparing for industrial action next week.

Rail workers will enter the second half of their latest 48-hour strike today as the business secretary says he is hopeful that a resolution can be found"sooner rather than later".

Grant Shapps was speaking to Sky News as members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union prepared for another day of industrial action in their long-running dispute over pay and conditions."We do think there are some reasonable pay deals on the table...when it comes to trains, there's an offer there on the table of some 8-9% depending on the particular area people are in, in return for modernisations.

On Friday, RMT chief Mick Lynch told Sky News that he was"always optimistic" that a resolution could be found in the dispute, despite a lack of progress so far.

Lazy snowflake central

What the strikes are showing is that society needs the front line workers. They are what makes the country tick, along with retail. It’s also showing people like CEO’s aren’t needed and aren’t worth their salary

The same Grant Shapps who when he was transport sec refused to sit down and talk! Wouldn’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth. The Government couldn’t run a bath, let alone a country!!

A lot of bots on here, not shocked with how bias the media is at min.. it’s a national issue not just about you London

Do any manual workers go to Gregg's for their lunch/piece and get a subsidized sausage roll like the MPs in Westminster remember we pay for that do any of us get expenses to pay for our energy bills Just think about what's happening here

Why dont the unions bring them out on strike for days, not one day?....because theyd have to give members strike pay while they lose wages....and that would be counterintuitive, when the Unions can give it to MPs who are doing NOTHING for payments. Thats why you dont join a union

Grant Shapps? The Grant Shapps? The one who has compounded all this. He’s hopeful yeah?

You won’t get a resolution by sitting and doing nothing.

Torys have RUINED this country, food banks and now warm banks are a stain on their reputation forever not to mention inflation and cost of living energy crisis, don't know why people aren't rioting in the streets.
