The Social Security System on Thursday appealed to employers groups to treat the contribution rate hike as a “noble investment,” as they would shoulder the scheduled contribution hike which the agency has started to implement.

The Social Security Act of 2018 mandates the gradual increase of the contribution rate by 1 percentage point every two years until it reaches 15% by 2025. This comes as groups such as the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry , the Employers Confederation of the Philippines , and the Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. The SSS opposed the request of the groups, as the agency said this would reduce the cut down the actuarial life of the fund, and that it had to act “in favor of workers’ interests.”
