Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ lack of budget rules risks the Albanese government drifting to higher tax and bigger government, instead of transitioning back to a private sector-led economy after the pandemic, the Business Council of Australia warns in its budget submission., BCA chief executive Jennifer Westacott said a well-run market economy had delivered Australians almost three decades of uninterrupted growth and prosperity pre-pandemic.
“Our concern is we drift into higher levels of both spending and taxation as a share of GDP and higher debt.”temptations to unwind the stage three personal income tax cuts due in July 2024. Treasurer Jim Chalmers said: “Our fiscal strategy to rebuild our buffers and strengthen the budget position is clear. We are banking the majority of tax revenue upgrades, showing spending restraint and investing in our productive capacity so we can put the budget on a more sustainable footing over time.”
“This would force discipline on the budget decision-making process while still allowing for growth in real spending per person,” the BCA said.
We’ve allseen enough if Private Sector greed?
What Rubbish Business Council Propaganda - shameful scare tactics, with no basis of truth
Sorry but Jim is in an important meeting about him right now. It's in his tweet. Please leave a message after the beep.
But why can't the Commonwealth finance and own public infrastructure as it did in the past? It was more successful than the neoliberal model.
Forget what politicians say, and look at what they do. There is no ‘risk’ of govt becoming larger and raising taxes, because that is their intention. That is what is happening all over the world. The debt is growing with it. They will tax workers before they trim any fat.
Accept the private sector only creates profits for itself and send profit offshore. There isn't even trickle down. More like piss up!
There she goes. Who would have thought the Business Council would criticise Labor?
What absolute nonsense, 2 reasons for unacceptable costs is the privatisation of power stations and big business not paying their fair share of taxes. Profits before people is not an acceptable direction by the business council.
There needs to be balance...
We might actually be able to fund adequate public services - oh, the horror!
Thanks Sherlock
Put them on a leash… and maybe a muzzle
Well, we gave them a try…..I guess that didn’t work out so good after all. At least the opposition when they’re in government wanted to give us back more of our own money and let the states be responsible foe “state” things!!!
Yeah cause the private sector has worked so well hasn’t it, not.
I'm kind of keen on better services and more money flowing to health and education so, not seeing the problen.
Cause that is how Labor roll
