Alberta NDP MLA Kathleen Ganley called the new provincial program fiscally irresponsible, noting companies are already legally obliged to clean up their own wells. “We are still assessing the program announced by the Alberta government,” Cenovus Energy, one of the country’s largest producers, said in a statement Monday.Critics say a new plan from Premier Danielle Smith to tackle the problem of orphan wells has serious flaws.
