Two U.S. lawmakers have sent letters to the country's top egg companies seeking answers for why egg prices have ballooned to record highs in recent months, according to copies of the letters seen by Reuters.

The price of eggs was up 150% in January from a year prior to $4.80 a dozen, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, raising concerns among farmers and antitrust advocates who have warned about the power of top agriculture firms to set prices.

"American families working to put food on the table deserve to know whether the increased prices they are paying for eggs represent a legitimate response to reduced supply or out-of-control corporate greed," wrote Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Representative Katie Porter of California., Hillandale Farms, Rose Acre Farms, Daybreak Foods, and Versova Management.

Bird flu has killed millions. Virginia several weeks ago had to cull 25k in turkeys and lets not forget the fires at poultry farms, and the high feed prices.

Maybe it has something to do with bird flu and the fact that millions of hens were euthanized. It takes 16 to 21 weeks for a hen to mature to egg laying age.

We'll get the same response the gas companies gave, then the retailers and so on. Politicians will call them greedy, wag their fingers at them, have pressers about the hard work they're doing to bring prices down and finally in the end do absolutely nothing.

Egg high prices? What about medications? Oh wait, pharma companies are untouchable.

Lawmakers need to question each other on greed & corruption!

As if the so called lawmakers have anything to say🤣

Well there's this.

The government is the one causing all this inflation mess in the first place

Meanwhile the US government has been silent on how much they get from the farming industry & how many hoops they make these companies go through. Because 'blame the companies not the government' is always the answer

Let the Eggs 🥚 come across the Border like Illegals 😎❗

Putin shaking Western economies and minds

You know the chickens ain't seeing a dime of it,

It’s clearly the consumers fault

Price gouging is part of it

always thought eggs where dirt cheap any ways. bird poops out an egg and its delivered to your grocery store. pay up babies

Supply and demand...

It's called supply and demand but apparently lawmakers didn't take any business classes

Here’s the answer: LGB

Seriously?

If Bill Gate owns farmland including egg companies that might explain why eggs equal to steak nowadays

There was a bird flu. Demand exceeded supply. Prices went up. Not hard to figure out.

Problem (almost) solved in consecutive tweets

Did chickens demand higher wages?

Is it really that hard to understand? Are people that slow? H5N1

Just go ask potus

H5N1

Government was the one who flooded the country with cash. We already know why prices are so high.

I’m sure it’s gotten expensive to feed chickens too.

Lol egg price has increased by 60% since last year..plus it’s often out of stock these days. Wonder where did the chickens go

Still cheaper than Canada. $2.29 x 1.34 = $3.07. Yesterday I paid $3.89 for the same!

even birds has its own kind rule-based order 😂, why not keep a cap on essential items e.g. egg price like to russia oil

Great. Now do oil.

It's not that hard is it? Bird Flu. goVegan

Доллар с помощью демократов скоро станет бумажкой.

The chickens are on strike.

Because they can is the answer.

Really, it's not that the chicken plants were burned.

Gas prices? Nah. But don’t fuck with the eggs!

Great. Next they should do oil/gas companies.

Ask Joe.
