The first tool that mechanic trainees at Maryland’s Vehicles for Change program pick up is not a wrench, but a pair of virtual reality goggles

. First, students watch an instructor virtually demonstrate a skill; then they follow prompts to complete a procedure themselves in VR. After that, students work through the checklist in VR without prompting – all before practicing on an actual car.

In the early days of the pandemic, doctors and nurses used VR to train for treating patients with Covid-19. Fire departments have used VR to train firefighters without needing a blaze. And some schools have used VR to expand the classroom beyond its physical walls, particularly as demand for remote education exploded during the pandemic.

Interesting

Waste of money. Not real training. Not enough money to draw in good workers into the trade. Don’t be fooled.

Virtual reality is transforming the mechanics industry and helping the next generation of workers gain the skills they need to succeed. With significant labor shortages in the field, this innovative technology is expediting the process of preparing entry-level workers for the job

Why not just go and apply for a entry level job and get real training ? This program sounds like a scam .

This is why people pay $130 to have their spark plugs changed.

Pilots train in VR TOO

Says any real mechanic ever,

them ghettos need them chop shops

😂😂😂😂😂 yeah it's all good in theory. But you gotta bust some knuckles to turn wrenches.

That all out push for kids to go to college has finally hit a wall. Trades education is critical. mikeroweworks was right all along. Glad someone is listening.

I don’t know how she’s going to do any work with them long as finger nails

People aren’t entering the trades, because companies have chosen increased profits over paying equivalent rates as the past. So… your “feel good story” isn’t about equal treatment, but to highlight an insignificant change in an old training program ? I smell Pulitzer.

Wait till surgeons perform brain surgery with VR

Excuse me sir, I'm Graphic Designer, If you needed banner post design, call me on fiverr :

Humans are pathetic and weak creatures that must rely on machines to perform even the simplest tasks.

No Latinos, Middle Easterners or Asians. Very diverse program 👍

Again Joe Biden turn on loud noise in apartment, not allow me rest. 21/02/2023 Nikolai

In 50 years, I have never heard a Democrat mention trade school. Why are they always trying to push kids to go to college? Indoctrination.🙄

If this initiative doesn’t earn them “MAN of the YEAR”. I don’t know what is. NOT returning to JAIL after serving term is almost impossible so to have this program that will potentially keep a freed person in his/her family’s life, it’s PRICELESS.
