“A number of animals are being abandoned that have serious medical issues. The only thing we can guess is that people just can’t afford those expenses.'

As head of PAWS Atlanta, Joe Labriola can get a good sense of the region’s economic well-being from the day-to-day activity of the city’s oldest no-kill animal shelter. Through the course of the past year, it’s become increasingly clear to him that people in the area are struggling under the weight of inflation and economic uncertainty. Practically the entirety of the daily call volume consists of requests to rehome pets.

So it’s not really even a question. I need to find the money to keep them as healthy as possible so we can love them as long as possible.” Mary Avila, a disabled veteran who lives on a fixed income, keeps things simple. She doesn’t go clothes shopping anymore, she buys cheaper cuts of meat, and she does try to sock away money in case her pets need a small medical procedure. “They always give,” said Avila, who lives in Bakersfield, California, with her cat, Jack, and two dogs, Domino and Squirt.

What’s really annoying is the amount of people begging for people to rescue dogs from shelters, but the cost to care for them has skyrocketed. Oh well, guess they have to euthanize them because they’re so expensive to care for.

Healthcare in the U.S. be it for animals or humans is a tragic joke. Major overhaul required.

CNN makes a living at guessing.

My dog had cancer. To do the surgery ($10,000) I was required first to see a specialist, who charges $6,000 an appointment. I unfortunately couldn’t pay so had to put her down.

~ i can also guess that they only want unproblematic companions with little to no baggage… not us misfits.

The vet industry is often a joke in how they treat customers. Considering themselves advocates often at odds with pet owners, they refuse to hear $ impacts. Plus they can’t even provide basic odds of outcomes for their procedures. Is this $5K surgery going to even work?

Biden’s America

BS the libs and dems are narcissistic people that only want what you have and dont want to work for anything. So now they want perfect pets and dump the imperfect one soon they will dump their imperfect kids on the system for others to take care of

Stop buying animals if you can't feed them !!

Or. They developed serious health conditions because they were abandoned.
