The building is being marketed as suitable for use as a care home, day nursery, offices, a doctor's surgery or a dentist

A Victorian primary school building in Bestwood Village has gone on the market four years after pupils and staff moved out. The Hawthorne Primary and Nursery was originally built in 1878 in School Walk, but the growing population meant that the building had become unsuitable.

Work on a £6.3 million replacement started in October 2018, with the school officially relocating the following August. Since then, the former school building has been empty and is currently boarded up. Nottinghamshire County Council has now instructed HEB Property Consultants to market the property. Describing the site, the firm says: "The property is centrally located within Bestwood Village, close to all local amenities."The location offers convenient access to the town centres of Hucknall and Bulwell, with Nottingham city within easy reach to the immediate south. Nottingham tram system can be accessed at the nearby Moorbridge Park & Ride facility.

The property is not a listed building and HEB therefore says that it could be suitable for uses including a care home, day nursery, offices, a doctor's surgery or a dentist. Interested buyers are advised to discuss their proposed use with Gedling Borough Council's planning department before making a bid.

Bids for the site are currently being welcomed on an informal tender basis, with a closing date of September 8. The Hawthorne Primary and Nursery is now based in the Westhouse Farm Development.
