In response to this ongoing challenge, the Department of Health is set to augment the existing vaccination regime with new vaccines designed to improve coverage and efficacy.
The vaccination is expected to significantly reduce the chances of these debilitating conditions reemerging within communities.In addition to this, a combination vaccine for measles and rubella is being added to the program. With a particular focus on safeguarding the health of young girls, especially during pregnancy, as it can potentially lead to birth defects.
These proactive changes have been recommended by the Ministerial-appointed National Advisory Group on Immunisation .
