Quote Devil says using e-cigarettes behind the wheel poses a 'huge risk' to road users

An insurance company has warned motorists that they could face fines of up to €120 for vaping behind the wheel if gardaí consider it to have affected their driving.

Conor Mulcahy, a motoring expert at Quote Devil, said driving while vaping poses a “huge risk” to both drivers, their passengers, and other motorists. “If you are distracted by vaping when driving, you could also potentially be fined for careless driving, which is a €80 fine and two penalty points. If you already have four penalty points on your licence, the fine rises to €120.

“Next time you consider reaching for your vape when driving, consider waiting until a safe place to stop your vehicle or until you reach your destination. Failure to do so could result in a hefty fine, penalty points, and even prosecution.”
