Gerard McCaughey, the co-founder of Century Homes, has been described as a 'game-changer' and 'force of nature'

Irish businessman and construction pioneer Gerard McCaughey, the co-founder of Century Homes, has died at the age of 60.

Mr McCaughey co-founded timber-frame housing business Century Homes with his father and brother in 1990, and was recognised for his pioneering work in the development of off-site construction methods.As chief executive of the company, he oversaw a number of breakthroughs in the industry, including the first off-site construction of a six-storey structure, and the UK’s first level-six carbon-neutral home.

He moved to the US in 2009 and served as chief executive of construction consulting company Infineco in Los Angeles before co-founding off-site building firm Entekra in 2016.
