From lost restaurants like Wimpy and Olivers to HMV, Virgin and Thomas Cook, our favourite memories of Market Street

Throughout its history, Market Street has been home to some of the city's most iconic stores and restaurants. Still one of Manchester city centre's most popular retail destinations, it's seen significant changes over the years.

One of the images featured Olivers, a bakery and sandwich shop that sold 'Supersub' sandwiches long before Subway arrived in the UK. Like Subway, the giant sandwiches were custom made and served on bread freshly baked in the premises. Paula Lambos was full of praise, saying: "Gorgeous sandwiches at Olivers. Better than subway." Claire Walker, who said she used to work there in the late 1980s, added: "Loved it. Used to get all the leftover cakes and bread for free when we shut. Happy times."Another lost restaurant that people remember fondly was Pizzaland.
