The family-owned market has been a big part of the Loxley community for over 40 years.

) - Tuesday, residents in Loxley had an opportunity to take home a piece of history. Burris Farm Market in Baldwin County held an auction after closing last November. And after closing for the season last November and never reopening, owner Greg Burris says it was time.

“Well, it’s kind of bittersweet but we’re happy to serve the public. And I want to thank the employees and the town,” Burris said. And it’s a task they don’t take lightly. “I’ve grown up here my whole life. Until the Beach Express showed up, everybody passed here. It was a huge staple. Everybody stopped on their way to the beach. Not just to the local community but reaching out to everybody that came to the beach as well,” auctioneer Leighton Griggers said.

And after 40 years, Burris says his family will always have the memories of the market, the bakery, and the customers. “I think we had in the years we were here right at 500 employees. A lot of kids got their first job here and bought their first car. So that’s been fun to watch all of that. It’s real gratifying to hear all of the compliments,” Burris said.UPDATE: Foley police say 1 shot, suspect on the looseMobile police investigating attempted home invasion caught on camera
