National Hockey League star Corey Perry, a London Knights legend, paid $7.25 million for a north London home in the Uplands area, north of Masonville, The Free Press has learned.
He declined comment on why he paid – some might suggest overpaid – $7.25 million for a property assessed for tax purposes at $1.8 million.“London is home to a lot of guys that have gone through the Knights organization. It’s a great city, a great area, we’re excited to be here.” Paying that much for a home will likely not affect the area’s resale market because most will see it as an unusual buy, said Meg Hetherington, real estate agent with Keller Williams in London.
Perry, 34, earns US$8.6 million a year as a forward with the Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League, and has career earnings to date of $80.3 million.“It was tough. I had four months of rehab. It was frustrating. I’m looking forward to getting back,” said Perry, who won the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s most valuable player in 2011.
