The California woman posed an authorized vendor and made off with over $800,000, authorities said.

A California woman illegally took over $800,000 from a business in Hanover Township after posing as an authorized vendor through a compromised email, authorities in Morris County said Wednesday.

Anna Marie Bustamante, 63, of Visalia, California was arrested and charged with second-degree theft. She is awaiting extradition from California to New Jersey, according to officials. On July 27, 2023, Bustamante defrauded a business out of $806,727.92 after communicating with the company through a compromised business email, posing as an authorized vendor, officials said.The business reported the theft to Hanover Township police on Aug. 3, 2023 after learning it had been defrauded, officials said.
