A father coming to the rescue of his teenage daughter in the ByWard Market was shot dead Friday night just hours after the man and his friends learned their hip-hop group had landed a mainstream radio campaign.
Wiens said Campbell, a 41-year-old father of four, had been shot in the chest and died during surgery. “You can hear the passion in Markland’s voice. Artist and CHUO radio host Justin “Dynamic” Gunderson said Campbell was a “pioneer in the 613″ for hip-hop and reggae. Campbell deliberately pushed anti-violence messages through his work, Gunderson said.
