Media Monitoring Africa Director William Bird says despite the public broadcaster’s financial situation, the SABC managed to deliver overwhelmingly fair election coverage. MMA released its report on the South African Broadcasting Corporation coverage of the national elections that took place on May 8, 2019.
Bird says they’ve monitored the SABC as well as other media houses including eNCA over the election period and looked at how they reported on the elections. The report comes after systemic bias was found by Media Monitoring Africa in the SABC’s reporting in the 2016 local elections.
