US Department Of Defense

CATL said the designation is a mistake

The US Department of Defence added electric vehicle battery manufacturer CATL to its list of 134 "Chinese military companies", a blacklist of entities that operate in the US and allegedly have links with the Chinese military.Other companies added to the list include social media and gaming company Tencent, chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies, and drone maker Autel Robotics.CATL's share price is down almost 3% after the announcement.

From June 2026, the US Defence Department can't contract listed companies, and starting in 2027, it will be unable to procure goods from those companies.CATL said that designation as a ‘Chinese military company' was a "mistake" but that it is not expected to adversely impact its business as it doesn't stop CATL from doing business with entities other than the DoD.
