Appointment of Nkwe hailed Highveld Lions bowler Nono Pongolo has hailed the appointment of his former coach Enoch Nkwe, as Proteas interim team director, as a step in the right direction.

Pongolo says Nkwe deserves the appointment after what he has achieved with the Lions in just one season.

“It shows how much he has grown in the past couple of years that for someone still so young to be entrusted to coach the Proteas, there’s a lot of hard work he has put in behind the scenes.

Pongolo says the retirement of two cricket legends Dale Steyn and Hashim Amla has left a big void in South African cricket, but believes the future of the sport looks bright under the new management. “It’s quite a big loss for South Africa. You got to say that losing two legends of the game in such a short space of time. We are in a place where South African cricket now it’s exciting in terms of, obviously because it’s unknown what’s going to happen. I mean we’ve got big players to replace. We’ve got a new management potentially coming in. It’s going to be interesting times for South Africa but definitely excited to see what’s going to happen.
