PUTRAJAYA: It is unfair to keep blaming the palm oil industry for the haze, as many companies adhere to sustainable agriculture standards, says Teresa Kok.

The Primary Industries Minister said palm oil companies subscribe to the principles set by initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable palm oil production such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil and the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil certification scheme , which she says prohibits open burning.

"In many parts of Borneo, Indonesia and peninsular Malaysia, many plants and trees are planted on peat soil, which can catch fire easily," she said after officiating at the 39th Palm Oil Familiarisation Programme. However, she said this could only be confirmed after Indonesia releases findings of its investigations into the annual phenomenon affecting air quality, mainly in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.

On Sept 17, the Indonesian President ordered a crackdown against individuals and companies responsible for forest fires that caused the haze.

It is irrelevant who is to blame! Just learn how to manage 'prevention'.

No, blame it on the orang utan?

When the DAP was in opposition, they had a lot to say, now they sing a different song!

Go take a NAP! Imagine... if this is true... what does it indicate? Are we a nation that keeps looking foward to the monsoon season every time Malaysian companies misbehave?

Good at provocation but failed badly in execution. Talks more than actions. Very disappointed!

dah terasa palm kok

Forests were cleared by greedy plantation companies for palm oil plantation around the world and there are still palm oil companies that do open burning to clear land! Don’t defend for sake of defending. Check and monitor.

Pasaipa hang back up industri kelapa sawit tang jerebu ni? Benda ni orang tau dah bertahun dah. Nak kelentong sapa? Back up suami ke?

Buat kerja , jgn putarbelit Kan fakta, ake sure next year no more Haze , can you ? This is what you should do .

What's unfair is millions having to choke and suffer through all this unnecessary man-made haze that's caused by a handful of profiting corporations and bosses. Do better!

Well why dont you ask Yeo Bee Ying about this? Her husband is one of top guys in IOI anyway, and she is the Minister! 😊

Mampos la

This minister must be having hazy sight. itsnothepalmoilindustry itsonlytheplantation

Hello Puan Menteri, do not deny the contributing factors. Accept the fact and enforce the expansion of MSPO effectively to all Msian companies irregardless where the land is. Stop these atrocities. Lives are dying 🐍 🐅🦖teresakok

Kok toking Kok as always.

🤦🏻‍♂️

Let's all of us start a new party!

Joining govt kills brain cells

Honest politician same as virgin prostitute. Impossible.

Ya right 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Then whom to blame

We are blaming the companies not the industry. What have your husband done to put out the fire and how can the fire happen every year the same time. Pls we are educated Malaysia citizen keep your political talk

Palm Oil has caused harm to the environment in countries where it is planted. It is also not a particularly healthy oil. Why is she ignoring such facts? Money?

I am more interested to know what teresakok is going to do to make sure there will be no more haze issue in the future.

ENSO has been neutral, should blame IOD for dry weather. This season haze's directly caused by irresponsible palm oil folks. Absolutely out of touch minister. Has no idea she's directly proving anti-palm folks' arguments. Accept and pledge fight, don't deny. It's stupid.

Yeah it’s the fisheries that have been causing the haze right?

Tiba2 rasa nak maki.

Someone please take her to a fun fair😂😂😂

What is fair then?

Many country bans because of this . Never bother about climate change .

What’s unfair are the millions of Malaysians suffering haze from industries that should have been closed last year. Next year just say it’s not caused by palm oil plantations as it’s strictly regulated and don’t use the word unfair. teresakok

Sustainable agriculture, yet we still see forests getting cleared out albeit not all via fire, displacing many animals including endangered species like orang utans. Evidences point the fire towards the palm oil industry, so what’s your proof it’s unfair to blame it?

Blame what then? The orang utans are burning the jungle? The natives are burning the jungle? Who does the mass jungle clearing for plantations & displacing countless animals & local residents? Who is causing land burning? Aren't the plantation owners causing climate change?

palm oil & cow ranching industry is Bad for the jungle.

teresakok You need support from Oil Palm industry but don't think our support to you as permanent. Don't fool us as we are BTC.

Abes nk blame sapa? Xkn orang utan plak g bakar utan tu sendiri? 😡😡😡😡😡

Back it up with facts. Don't just say its unfair.

It’s not wrong to admit to fault once in a while. Denying will just make you look more stupid.

Suck my KOK

Palm oil is the destruction of the world. There goes the jungles. Up goes the CO2. Very unhealthy to eat.

Amoi tua ini kuat bodo. Otak mana letak

Nobody to blame maa.4000+ titik panas not more than 50 fr oil palm pltn..others you can check fr satellite n pinpoint is there fr pltations or peat/lahang/open fire forrest!!

I'm so furious with this new government. I voted last few elections for better practices and this is how they're responding today. I wish there's a better alternative than what we have today.

Is best the authorities get to ACTnow and publish the findings. Are we expecting another Haze season? Pointing fingers get us MORE mad. teresakok

teresakok So it’s okay to blame school and kids to the point they need to apologise to you?

Now is the time to plant padi.
