NSTnation Finance Ministry ex-officer charged with soliciting, receiving graft

Rohaya Sabot, clad in a dark ‘baju kurung’, was calm and nodded when the charges were read before Sessions Court judge Azman Ahmad today.According to the charges, she allegedly solicited RM3 million from Allied Vantage International Group Limited representative Wan Mohamad Wan Yusuf at a restaurant in Presint 8, Putrajaya on Nov 25.

She was charged under Section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 punishable under Section 24 of the same act which carries maximum 20 years imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the sum of gratification or RM10,000, whichever higher. The offence falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 10 years’ imprisonment, whipping, and a fine.
