If women participated in the U.S. workforce at the same rate as men, it would add $4.3 trillion to the American economy by 2025, write Sheryl Sandberg and Rachel Thomas of Lean In

By Sheryl Sandberg and Rachel Thomas Oct. 15, 2019 12:05 am ET Women are outnumbered in corporate America from the entry level to the C-suite. It’s been this way for years, and we need to get real about why. Either men are more talented, harder working, and more ambitious than women—or something unfair is happening.

Closing the gender gap is critical for companies: No business in the world can succeed without hiring and promoting good employees, and when the numbers are this lopsided, many talented women are being overlooked. It’s critical for the country: If women participated in the U.S. workforce at the same rate as men, it would add $4.3 trillion to the American economy by 2025 and give millions of families more financial security.

Companies should do everything they can to make their workplaces more fair—starting with putting best practices in place to get bias out of hiring and promotions. For example, use diversity targets; it’s hard to reach a goal you don’t set. Make it a rule to assemble a diverse slate of qualified candidates for every open position; no more choosing between a couple of men every time. Require unconscious-bias training for all evaluators.

It's still goes down to the assumption that the success of a business doesn't depend on the gender but rather on the person management style seated on the top.

So out of touch with reality in her Silicon Valley Bubble

And, as Reagan said lower taxes on the rich & it will all trickle down. Advance women & a few crumbs really will trickle down to black men. Cept we need to take care of black women with husbands in prison first, of course, getting paid 50 cents an hour for work that's important.

If women participated in the workplace at the same rate as men we could hasten global warming as we consume billions more worth of oil so much faster. This article is like being a kid & accusing grandma of unequal distribution of cookies to her grandchildren.

We could all buy another cell phone, with the gains Gender Equality would make. And gain another 20 lbs as well. But what quality of life things do we deny ourselves, especially in exercise and health, in the rat race for 'gender equality?'

ZukovicSteven … and their children will be raised by 3rd World minimum wage illiterates, which will ultimately subtract $8.6 Trillion from the American Economy.

So what? Many women feel like staying home and rearing their children or working part time. It's their choice.

Completely ignores the value of the work women do outside of the paid workforce 🙄

She doesant take into account many factors.

If women participated in the U.S. workforce at the same rate as men, the birth rate would drop sharply and all will be replaced by other cultures who live differently. Also, an FB executive is the last person I want to hear anything from...

DeleteFacebook don't care.

Women are quite often “participating” in more valuable and substantive ways: as stay-home moms raising children.

Yes, we must all be cogs in the machine. It's good for 'the economy'.

So they should go the fuck on and participate then. No more gender studies degrees. No more maternity leave. Just participate

You could've said it earlier! I'll let my uterus shrivel up so I can participate in the economy to please the feminists. NO THANKS! I'm pregnant with my first kid at 30 and every day I wished I had started this path in my 20s instead. The feminist movement lied to me and everyone

In the meanwhile men are dropping out of the workforce and younger men are less desirable for marriage because they are broke. There seems to be a conflict in the narratives.

需要があればな

And the government would raise all the children. What does society lose when mothers are forced to be part time mothers by modern feminists. Money over every thing? How about in the long run?

Sheryl what you obviously don’t understand is that these women you are referring to aren’t home lying on the couch eating chocolates and playing video games. They are shaping the future of America by nurturing, educating and loving children. Their value - immeasurable.

I dont see women on oil rigs and if they are they’re doing the easiest job on site. Same as construction, manufacturing, and any other job that requires physical strength...

sherylsandberg is the COO of the evil, dangerous to democracy corporation that is Facebook. Maybe challenge her on the actions of her company to infect society with information and thought manipulation rather than help her offset the negative attention Facebook is getting.

Wouldn't it also drive wages down, for both men and women? That whole supply and demand thing.

So we tried families without fathers and that has proved to be a wonderful blessing to society. Now we want to have kids raised without either parent. So state run child rearing with minimal parental involvement.

Who then raises our children?

So in other words of women had “less children”.

Rich food for thought for all conscientious minded Americans irrespective of party affiliations for the good of future generations

Women so driven to equal men that there’ll be no one left to raise the children. I guess that’s where abortion comes in? This world is messed up!

It’s because we don’t let them go to college. Ohhh thats right. 55% of grads are women.

If I got paid like I lived in NYC, I’d have more money

I'd rather hear from someone who's not an evil Facebook top level exec.

How about women who want to contribute to our society by raising children themselves? No more broken family. Kids with solid family values and backgrounds. I have seen too many working parents who literally abandon their kids so they can 'contribute' to the economy. Sad

where would the jobs magically appear from to create 4.3 trillion? That’s like saying if we added children of the age of 5 and older at the same rate as adults we’d add another 4 trillion. Companies don’t care about you or gender they want the most value.

no one is stopping women from participating in e workforce at e same rate as men so what e fuck is she saying

I put my career on hold to raise my children and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. It will always be the most important job of my life.

The growth in the labor pool would bring down wages for everyone.

Meanwhile facebook is selling out our democracy for corporate profile and spreading disinformation.

We can all send our kids to govt facilities to be trained and educated so we dont have to worry about that anymore

Bla Bla bla

And if Facebook didn't allow lies to stay posted, it likely would be harder to elect an imbecile to the White House.

If US companies adopted the same principles as Europe for paternity/maternity leave and lowered the cost of childcare then there would be an increase in women in the workforce. It’s not sexist but rather company policies dictating

WilliamdeVry1 Especially if they were paid the same!

'... the same rate as men...' Is that what women want?

So this FB COO is talking gender issues but she helped elect Trump (such a gender diverse cabinet huh?) with the help of her other female collaborator katieharbath FB Global Elections PP Director so this whole female empowerment rings incredibly hollow

Meanwhile some morons thing AOC is too emortional for politics! Women need to take over the world ! More power to you AOC ! I love what you are doing ! ARC from India 🇮🇳 🤗

If every woman had the family background, money, educational opportunities and political influence of Sheryl Sandberg, we could erase poverty...

but my vagina
