"I don't think it's crazy to say one out of four things you will see in TV and film in a couple of years will have started as a podcast," said Conal Byrne, president of the iHeartPodcast Network.

Around the same time, ABC Studios nabbed the option for "Committed," a podcast iHeartMedia commissioned from writer Jo Piazza about quirky marriages and how couples make their relationships work. Blumhouse is not only optioning podcasts from iHeartMedia, but also using the deal as a way to tell stories of its own that might not be suitable for visual production, Byrne said. "The Mantawauk Caves," Blumhouse's first podcast under its deal with iHeartMedia, works best as a podcast since it's based on iPhone audio recordings.
